Microsoft Corp. MSFT has unveiled a distinctive Xbox controller made entirely of genuine jade, serving as a tribute to the release of "Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty" on the gaming console.

The company shared a video on Xbox's official channel, showcasing the intricate manufacturing process of this controller, expertly crafted by renowned jade artisan Andy Chi.

In the video, viewers are treated to a firsthand look at Chi's meticulous approach, encompassing every aspect from jade sourcing to utilizing CNC machinery and employing traditional hand-polishing techniques.

"If I can make a very exquisite jade product as a jade worker, and people will preserve it for a long time or permanently, I could think of nothing [more] to be prouder of," the artist says in the Xbox video.

And adds: "I think the game is a little bit like real life. You need to challenge something. You need to conquer the difficulties."

The production of the world's first jade video game controller posed its fair share of challenges. Chi meticulously divided the controller's shell into eight separate pieces but encountered an obstacle when two of the components developed cracks after almost a week of cutting. Undeterred, Chi persevered, restarting the process multiple times to ensure flawlessness.

To guarantee both aesthetic appeal and user comfort, Chi devoted careful attention to the controller's functionality. Specifically, he ensured that the jade surface remained unharmed during prolonged gameplay by implementing a solution where the directional buttons make contact with plastic components instead of directly touching the jade.

It should be noted that the jade Xbox controller is not available for purchase, and Microsoft has not disclosed any plans regarding the potential giveaway of the controller as part of a promotional campaign.
