Donald Trump's niece Mary Trump, who is known for her pro-Democratic stance, took to Twitter to give a new definition for wokeness.
What Happened: Mary Trump on Monday quote-tweeted a Reuters news story that discussed a new security rule in the state of Missouri, which required broker-dealers to obtain consent from customers to transact in an investment product based on environment, social and corporate governance objectives.
The rule was issued June 1 by GOP Secretary of State John Jay Ashcroft despite legislation to the effect failing to pass during Missouri's legislative session that ended May 12, the report said.
Republicans in some states have been clamoring for limiting the growing consideration of ESG factors by businesses and investors, it added. Most GOP politicians call ESG factors "woke overreach.”
This year alone saw about 165 proposals with regard to this in 37 states, said climate-focused research and advisory firm Pleiades Strategy, Reuters reported.
Mary Trump in a tweet substituted the "wokeness" phrase in the headline of the Reuters news story to "basic human decency." "Fixed it for you," she said, tagging Reuters.

Why It's Important: In a literary sense, wokeness refers to a state of being aware of social problems such as racism and inequality.
White conservatives have taken up cudgels against wokeness, with leading politicians voicing their strong opposition to it. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis takes pride in projecting himself as the one who is leading the war against wokeness.
While launching his campaign, DeSantis said, "The woke mind virus is basically a form of cultural Marxism."
The Supreme Court's recent ruling reversing affirmative action or considering race in college admissions is also seen as the result of the war on woke.
