Team Trump Clashes With Biden Over 'Softball' Town Hall Event: 'Will Crush Him In General Election'

Donald Trump‘s 2024 campaign team hit back at Joe Biden after the incumbent president’s campaign on Tuesday criticized the former president for his Iowa town hall event, labeling it a “softball.”

What Happened: The Biden campaign took issue with Trump’s interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, arguing that the former president prefers “softball town halls” where he is unlikely to be held accountable for his “broken promises and failed policies,” reported the Washington Examiner.

Kevin Munoz, a spokesman for the Biden campaign, highlighted the contrast between the two administrations, stating that President Biden has successfully created nearly 800,000 manufacturing jobs throughout the country and strengthened America’s competitive edge globally.

In response, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung dismissed Munoz’s claims, asserting that under Trump’s first term, “America was more prosperous, the border was secure, communities were safe, and America was respected on the world stage.”

Cheung also hit back at Biden, stating, “Crooked Joe Biden can't run on his disastrous record and knows President Trump will crush him in the general election.”

Why It Matters: The ongoing feud between Biden and Trump has been a recurring theme, with Trump previously stating he never went after Biden “like I could have because of respect for the presidency.”

latest Morning Consult poll showed Biden continues to lead in a hypothetical race against Trump and another GOP frontrunner ahead of the 2024 election. In a nationwide survey that asked registered voters about their preferred candidate in the 2024 election, the current president secured 43% of the vote while Trump garnered 41%.
