EV giant Tesla Inc TSLA seemingly has an alpha build of Full Self-Driving (FSD) version 12 ready under wraps and undergoing testing.
What Happened: “I tested the version 12 alpha build today,” CEO Elon Musk wrote. “It is mind-blowing.”
The CEO was responding to an X.com user who shared their feedback on FSD Beta. “Wow. FSD Beta is getting freakishly good,” the user wrote.
Last month, Musk said that version 12 would no longer be beta, hinting that it would achieve full autonomy by then. Currently, FSD is in beta mode meaning it is still being tested and requires active driver supervision.
Musk has previously also said that v12 is reserved for when FSD is end-to-end AI.
Why It Matters: Earlier this month, Musk said at the 2023 World Artificial Intelligence Conference that Tesla is “very close” to achieving full self-driving capability.
"I have been wrong about this prediction in the past, but I feel we are closer to it than we ever have been," Musk said.
