Minnesota School of Business Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program Appoints Elizabeth Riley Program Dean

Longtime educator and nurse Elizabeth Riley has been named Dean of the Minnesota School of Business Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. She previously taught nursing at the College of St. Scholastica, also in Minnesota.

The Minnesota School of Business-Bachelor of Science Nursing program welcomes Elizabeth Riley as its new dean of nursing. With 20 years' experience in higher education, Riley arrived at the Minnesota School of Business (MSB) following a six-year stint on the nursing faculty at the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth, Minn.

Her nursing experience includes cardiovascular intensive care, labor and delivery, high-risk pregnancy, and medical/surgical nursing. When asked why she was attracted to the Minnesota School of Business opportunity, Riley said, “The program is a hidden gem in the Twin Cities' nursing school community. The school offers small class sizes, state-of-the-art medical equipment and two opportunities a year to join a nursing cohort.”

Riley stressed the school's high pass rates (95 percent) for the nursing board exam (NCLEX®) as another reason she was drawn to MSB. High board pass rates are an indicator of a high-quality program. The Richfield, Minn. campus was recently inducted into Chi-at-Large in the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, an unusual feat for a nursing program that's only six years old.

In addition to a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing and Master's of Science in Nursing Education, Riley holds undergraduate and master's degrees in English.

Since beginning its bachelor's of science in nursing program in 2006, the Minnesota School of Business has graduated 132 students. There are currently 115 students in the school's growing program. The twelve-quarter (three-year) nursing degree program provides a comprehensive nursing curriculum preparing graduates to practice in a diverse global community.

The program differs from others in the state by providing first-year nursing students the chance to gain hands-on experience with patients. MSB's program also provides students courses in critical care and hospice/end-of-life care, as part of the core curriculum.
