In the midst of strained relations between Xi Jinping‘s China and Taiwan, both nations share a common apprehension towards Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla Inc. and SpaceX, QZ reports.

Musk’s Starlink Causes Unease: China and Taiwan’s concerns stem from Musk’s control over the Starlink network of low-earth orbit satellites.

China, in particular, fears the potential of unmediated Starlink connectivity within its borders, given its tight control over the internet. Taiwan, on the other hand, is hesitant to use Starlink’s services as Musk shares close ties with China.
