Didn't Win The Mega Millions Jackpot? This Restaurant Is Giving Out Free Food As A Consolation Prize

Zinger Key Points
  • Krispy Kreme is offering a free doughnut to customers with a losing ticket from Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing.
  • Changes in lottery rules and ticket prices have led to more frequent billion-dollar jackpots in Powerball and Mega Millions.

Nobody won the Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday, bringing it to $1.25 billion. But, you can still win with your losing ticket.

Krispy Kreme Inc DNUT is giving customers a free doughnut if they show a losing lottery ticket. The offer is only good Wednesday, August 2, and you must show a ticket from Tuesday’s Mega Millions drawing.

Big Stakes: The $1-billion-plus Mega Millions jackpot is the second lottery jackpot to surpass $1 billion in the last few weeks. A single winner in California claimed the Powerball’s billion-dollar jackpot a couple of weeks ago on July 19.

A slight change in lottery rules, as well as an increase in ticket prices, has led to bigger jackpots in recent years. It used to be extremely rare for a jackpot to surpass $1 billion, but now appears to happen more regularly.

What Are The Changes? The major lotteries, Powerball and Mega Millions, have made their lotteries progressively harder to win throughout the last couple of decades. The most significant recent change was in 2015 when Powerball included additional number combinations, effectively cutting your odds of winning in half.

And when it’s harder to win, the jackpot keeps growing. Couple this with an increase in ticket prices (Powerball and Mega Millions tickets are each $2, double what they used to be) and the result is huge jackpots that are harder to win.
