Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino Added An 'X' To Her Username, But A Troll Seized Her Original Handle And Turned It Into A Parody

Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino recently underwent a username change on the platform but encountered an unexpected problem when a troll swiftly converted her original handle into a parody account.

What Happened: Yaccarino changed her username from @lindayaccs to @lindayaX. But someone took the old one and turned it into a parody account.

The incident occurred over the weekend following a logo alteration by the company’s billionaire owner, Elon Musk, who replaced the iconic blue bird with an “X.”

Yaccarino decided to involve the public in selecting her new username to show her support for the new logo. She conducted a poll on Saturday, offering two options: @lindayax or @lindayaxx. The poll garnered an impressive 40,000 votes, and eventually, Yaccarino settled on @lindayaX with 67.3% votes.

However, shortly after the username change, a troll seized Yaccarino’s original handle and transformed it into a parody account. This account humorously ridiculed the new logo in one post, suggesting a return to the old Twitter logo. In another post, they joked about purchasing an adult streaming site, referencing complaints from Twitter users who found the new logo reminiscent of such sites.

This isn’t the first time parody accounts have caused a stir on Twitter. Elon Musk, who acquired Twitter for a staggering $44 billion in October, has also dealt with a deluge of parody accounts poking fun at him. In response, Musk implemented a November policy stating that “unlabeled” parody accounts would face “permanent suspension.”

Linda Yaccarino, a former advertising executive at NBCUniversal, joined Twitter in June and has now experienced both the excitement of a username change and the challenge of dealing with a parody account situation. Despite the troll’s antics, Yaccarino’s commitment to engaging with the platform and the public remains evident.
