Over five years after first touting the idea, Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk said on Saturday that its “futuristic” diner in Los Angeles will be ready later this year.
What Happened: The diner, which Musk described as “Grease meets The Jetsons” will also be a supercharger location, the CEO said.
Musk was responding to one of his several parody accounts that shared an AI-generated image of a futuristic Tesla hotel.
“Would you sleep at the Tesla Hotel? $100/night!” the post read. The parody account also noted that if Tesla built a hotel at its future supercharger locations, it will turn into a tourist spot more than a supercharger.
“I wonder what kind of hotel we would design if we did so,” Musk wrote in response while also talking about the diner.
Why It Matters: Musk first touted the idea of a drive-in restaurant in LA in January 2018.
“Gonna put an old school drive-in, roller skates & rock restaurant at one of the new Tesla Supercharger locations in LA,” Musk wrote.
In March this year, Tesla showed an illustration of the diner restaurant, complete with a rooftop patio, drive-in movie screens and charging ports at its investor day. The image also showed people lining up at the diner.
