Chris Christie Believes Trump's Former Ally Could Give 'Worst Testimony' In Jan. 6 Probe: 'Was A Very Involved Chief Of Staff'

Former New Jersey Governor, Chris Christie, suggested that Donald Trump‘s ex-aide may be a secret informant.

What Happened: Christie, in an interview with CNN, said he believes Mark Meadows, who served as Trump’s chief of staff during his final year in office, is already a cooperating witness.

He added that Meadows’ behavior is indicative of this. "He has all the looks of a cooperating witness, running into coffee shops away from the press."

Christie said Meadows could potentially provide the “worst testimony” against Trump, barring family members. "He was a very involved chief of staff, in my experience," Christie said. "He made sure he was in every meeting and every conversation. And we remember, there are hundreds of text messages that he turned over to the special counsel that he kept."

Why It Matters: Meadows served during a crucial period of Trump's presidency, which is now under investigation for federal election obstruction and conspiracy charges.

Meanwhile, the Republican presidential candidate, Christie, has consistently supported special counsel Jack Smith‘s investigations against the ex-president, dismissing any political motive behind them. Smith’s investigations are centered on Trump’s alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 election results and his handling of classified documents after his tenure.

Christie has also previously accused Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, of potentially giving misleading testimony regarding Trump’s involvement in attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

Christie holds a strained relationship with the Trump family and his bold criticisms of Donald Trump himself.
