Former U.S. Secretary of Labor Robert Reich took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to express his astonishment over the controversies surrounding his former law school classmate and Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.
What Happened: Reich reminisced about his days in law school with Thomas and expressed his disbelief over the latter’s involvement in multiple controversies.
Reich stated, “Clarence Thomas was my classmate in law school. I never would have guessed he’d be the most scandal-plagued Supreme Court justice possibly ever.” He further alluded to the Roe case, sharing his thoughts on the matter.
Why It Matters: The tweet from Reich comes in the wake of recent reports that highlighted Justice Thomas’s acceptance of undeclared gifts.
The Guardian reports that ProPublica followed extensive previous reporting on undisclosed gifts to Thomas from a series of wealthy donors, including 38 vacations and expensive sports tickets, from right-wing donors. This revelation has sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for Thomas’s resignation.
