David Craig, a 71-year-old from Southern California, embarked on an 8,500-mile journey in his Tesla Model S TSLA using the car’s “Camp Mode” feature, Business Insider reports.

During his 19-day trip in May, Craig traveled through states like Arizona, Texas, Arkansas, and Kentucky. He highlighted the convenience of sleeping in his Tesla, avoiding the need for motel check-ins. The Camp Mode feature, introduced in 2021, maintains a steady cabin temperature, offers entertainment options, and even displays a video of a crackling fire.

“I always know what I’m getting into when I camp in my Tesla,” Craig mentioned, contrasting the experience with unpredictable motel stays.

Craig drove between six to 10.5 hours daily, stopping briefly to recharge at Tesla Superchargers. He felt safe parking near these locations due to their constant activity. The vehicle’s estimated range is about 405 miles.

While some EV owners have faced challenges finding chargers, Craig’s experience suggests that Tesla’s Superchargers and internal navigation system offer a distinct advantage for long journeys.
