Adobe Inc.'s ADBE Express (formerly known as Adobe Spark) has hopped onto the AI boat with its recent upgrade. Building on Adobe Firefly‘s generative AI model, the cloud-based design platform has unveiled new features to simplify graphic creation. This upgrade allows users to craft custom images and text effects using prompts in 100+ languages.
Additional enhancements include automatic background removal and audio-driven character animations.
What happened: Adobe Express has integrated Adobe’s Firefly generative AI technology to generate custom images and text enhancements for marketing, social media, and other design requirements.

Is it a Canva killer? Canva has been riding the AI wave in the design world since 2019, with features like the automatic background removal tool before anyone else. The USP has been its user-friendly interface that’s suited for all age groups putting heavyweight Adobe Photoshop in the shade.
While the new generative additions to Adobe Express are intriguing, they fall short of matching other Firefly-powered tools such as the Photoshop Generative Fill. However, for enterprises, Adobe comes with the assurance that Firefly is commercially safe, as it’s trained exclusively on Adobe-owned content.
Adobe Express underwent an AI-enhancement phase starting in June of this year, although it has been in circulation since 2021. The upgraded Express can be accessed on the desktop web for free, with a mobile version in the pipeline.
However, the Adobe Express Premium subscription is $9.99/month, which offers added features and design packs. For Creative Cloud enthusiasts, this plan comes at no added cost. Larger teams can benefit from the Adobe Express enterprise tier, tailored for collaborative work.
