Majority Of Voters Believe Trump 'Did Something Illegal' In His Alleged Efforts To Overturn 2020 Election Results: Poll

A recent Fox News poll reveals majority of registered voters believe Donald Trump "did something illegal" related to "efforts to overturn the 2020 election."

What Happened: The poll, released on Wednesday, two days after Trump was indicted in Georgia, indicated that a majority of voters think that the former president acted unlawfully in his attempts to overturn Joe Biden’s 2020 election win.

About 20% of the voters think Trump "did something wrong" but "not illegal" and 24% believe he "did nothing seriously wrong."

The same poll also revealed a drop in the number of voters who think the Department of Justice’s treatment of Trump “is politically motivated,” from 55% in June to 51% this month. However, there was an increase in voters who think the DOJ’s actions against Trump are not “politically motivated.”

The poll, conducted between Aug. 11 and 13, had a margin of error of 3% and a sample size of 1,002 registered voters.

Why It Matters: The results come amidst an array of legal troubles for Trump, including a recent indictment in Georgia alleging efforts by Trump and 18 of his associates to overturn Biden’s 2020 election win. This is the fourth indictment for Trump this year, potentially impacting his possible 2024 election bid. Trump and his team have criticized the indictment, referring to it as a “witch hunt” and questioning its timing.

Meanwhile, Trump has promised to release “indisputable” evidence of alleged fraud in the 2020 Georgia Presidential Election in response to the recent indictment. This new development adds another layer of complexity to Trump’s potential 2024 election bid.
