EV maker Rivian Automotive RIVN has offered a new mobile software update that allows its vehicle owners to self-schedule service appointments.
What Happened: “We help locate nearby service centers and let you pick a date and time that suit you — all through the Rivian mobile app,” Rivian said in a post.
The update comes a month after Rivian vice president of software development Wassym Bensaid shared his vision for an EV future where vehicles self-monitor their health.
Why It Matters: "Imagine a world where your vehicle will self-monitor its health, an AI agent in your vehicle will detect when a future problem might happen, your vehicle will automatically schedule its own service and we send you one of our mobile vans," Bensaid had said at the Data+AI Summit organized by Databricks in San Francisco.
The ultimate goal is to give customers back their most valuable resource of time, he had added.
Rivian, however, retains a human-centric approach to customer support with all customer interactions handled by real employees instead of automated bots.
