Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier, a dual citizen of France and Canada, was sentenced to almost 22 years in prison for mailing ricin to former President Donald Trump and eight Texas law enforcement officials.
Ferrier sent the poison-filled letters in September 2020. The poison was produced at her residence in Quebec, Canada, reported CNN.
US District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich sentenced Ferrier to 262 months imprisonment with a lifetime supervised release. Following her prison term, she will be permanently deported from the US.
Despite the severity of her crimes, Ferrier expressed no remorse during the hearing. Instead, she identified herself as an activist, not a terrorist. “The only regret I have is that it didn't work and that I couldn't stop Trump,” she said.
Assistant US Attorney Michael Friedman emphasized that there is no room for politically motivated violence in the US. Judge Friedrich echoed this sentiment, noting the potential deadliness of Ferrier’s actions.
