Glen Gilzean, an ally of Governor Ron DeSantis, has reportedly violated Florida law.
Gilzean broke the law by holding a job overseeing Disney World’s district in Central Florida while also chairing the state ethics commission, Politico reported.
Florida law prevents public employees from serving on the ethics commission, a fact first exposed by the investigative news organization Florida Bulldog. The violation came into light after Gilzean asked Steven Zuilkowski, the general counsel for the ethics commission, to investigate whether his $400,000 salary job as an administrator qualified as “public employment.”
Gilzean now must choose between remaining an administrator for the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District or keeping his position on the Florida ethics commission.
His current role as an administrator is akin to a city manager; district officers report to him, and he serves as the link between Disney and other regional businesses and the district’s board.
Before his current role, Gilzean, along with other members of the ethics commission, dismissed an ethics complaint against DeSantis from MAGA Inc., a political action committee that supports former President Donald Trump.
