Good Vs. Evil And Apple: Why Only Heroes Get To Use iPhones?

Have you ever noticed that the heroes usually use iPhones when watching a TV show or a movie? It’s not just a coincidence – there’s a secret story behind it.

What Happened: Did you know that Apple Inc. AAPL, the company behind iPhones, is the king of product placement?

The tech giant has managed to sneak iPhones into TV shows and movies more than any other brand. Even in shows that aren’t on Apple’s own streaming service, one can still spot the most advanced iPhone models, according to Merchant Machine.

Similarly, MacBook is the most placed product of any brand in both movies and TV shows.

iPhones show up so much that they’ve become a big part of the TV world. Apple also wants consumers to associate their products with good things and good people. So in maximum cases, the hero will have an iPhone, not the villain.

Why It’s Important: A 2021 report from The Wall Street Journal found that in about 74 episodes of Apple TV+, characters got their hands on around 300 iPhones, 120 MacBooks, and 40 pairs of AirPods.

Filmmaker Rian Johnson also dropped a hint – if you don’t see an iPhone with a character, it might mean they’re up to no good in the story, giving away a surprise twist.

In some shows, characters even mention wanting to buy Apple stock, but these placements are done so smoothly that users might not notice.

For the unversed, “product placement” means a company pays to show its product in a TV show or movie. Companies sometimes also pay for characters to mention their products subtly, like Microsoft Corporation’s MSFT Bing
