Despite the four indictments Donald Trump is facing, all opinion polls and approval ratings suggest he will likely snag the Republican nomination for the 2024 general election. The former president's niece Mary Trump weighed in on the implication of approval ratings.
What Happened: Mary Trump concurred with the view of Democratic strategist Kurt Bardella, who said in a post on X, formerly Twitter, that, “After 2022, we need to retire the fixation with approval ratings as a predictor of voter behavior.”
Responding to his view Mary Trump said, “Yes, please.”
Bardella shared a video clip of one his interviews with New Nation, in which he said Donald Trump, who is facing indictments, talks about it all time. He makes it simpler, makes himself available to talk about it it all the time, he said.
“Therefore there’s more content about it,” he added.
Biden Needs New Strategy? Contrasting this with what is happening with President Joe Biden, the Democratic strategist said the president has very little to say about his son Hunter Biden and that is a net win for Biden.
For the unversed, Hunter Biden is facing criminal investigation into his finances related to business dealings and lucrative consulting work on behalf of companies in Ukraine and China.
When asked whether Joe Biden has to change his strategy, given only 41% of Americans approve of him as a president compared to 54% who disapprove, Bardella said in 2022, the Republicans extremed themselves and there was a massive backlash, with the tidal wave bolstered by the Roe Vs. Wade decision.
A lot of those elements are still in play heading into 2024 and till this moment there is not one shredded evidence connecting anything about Hunter Biden to Joe Biden," Bardella said.
“So I think that the press and the public care much more about a former president's activities than the activities of a private citizen who happens to be a president's son,” he added.
Data compiled from nationwide polls by FiveThirtyEight showed that as of Aug. 18, about 40.9% approve Joe Biden compared to 54.4% who disapprove.
Another poll showed that the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that only 36% of Americans approve of Joe Biden‘s handling of the economy.
