In Atlanta, the nation's gaze is fixed on former President Donald Trump as he prepares for a pivotal legal step.

Top law enforcement insiders suggest that Trump might present himself at a detention facility in Fulton County, Georgia, according to NBC News

While the insiders, who opted for anonymity, hinted at a surrender by no earlier than Thursday, the exact timeline remains under wraps, the outlet reported. However, they told NBC News that they expect the surrender to happen late in the week.

Trump and several associates are under scrutiny for alleged malpractices linked to challenging the 2020 electoral outcome in the state. Despite the serious allegations, Trump has remained defiant. Fulton County's lead prosecutor, Fani Willis, set next Friday as the deadline for Trump and his 18 associates to make their voluntary appearance.

A Fulton County Sheriff’s Office representative confirmed to NBC News that all of the individuals named in the legal proceedings will undergo standard procedures at the Rice Street detention center. They further clarified that the individuals have the liberty to "turn themselves in at any time."

Following their expected surrender, Willis said she envisions preliminary hearings to start the week of Sept. 5, eyeing a potential trial commencement on March 4. Amidst this news, Trump has been outspoken about initiating any trial before the 2024 electoral race. In a fresh submission, his legal representatives advocated to defer his federal trial to April 2026.

Through his digital platform, Truth Social, Trump shared his thoughts, asserting that initiating trials sooner would equate to "election interference" and stressed that legal proceedings "should be brought after the 2024 Presidential Election."
