Ron DeSantis, Florida Governor, faced backlash from Donald Trump’s supporters over his “listless vessel” comment, The Hill reported.
In an interview with a center-right publication The Florida Standard, DeSantis referred to Republicans supporting Trump as “listless vessels.” He emphasized the need for a movement based on principles rather than blindly following daily updates on Truth Social.
The Trump campaign likened DeSantis’s comment to Hillary Clinton‘s 2016 “deplorables” remark.
“DeSantis is now running the same, failed playbook as Hillary Clinton,” stated Trump campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung.
Jason Miller, Trump’s adviser and Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for the Trump-aligned PAC, also criticized DeSantis’s comment.
The tension escalates as a recent CBS News poll shows Trump leading DeSantis by 46 points in the 2024 GOP race.
