Like many people out there, Chris Gimmer just wasn’t fully satisfied with his job. While traveling through Asia, Gimmer decided that he was ready to take a leap of faith and quit his job to start his own company.
Codie Sanchez, a former journalist turned investor, shared a Twitter thread telling Gimmer’s story about how he quit his job and built a company that generates monthly revenue of $125,000.
After leaving his job, Gimmer initially launched a dating site for students that unfortunately didn't succeed. However, Gimmer and his business partner didn’t give up.
On their second entrepreneurial attempt, the pair created a bootstrap marketplace that grew and was eventually acquired. Building off this success, Gimmer founded Snappa, an online tool to help creators with visuals for blogs, articles and more.
Snappa allows users to browse through countless templates and free-to-use images so that creators can make professional-grade graphics without graphic design experience. Gimmer implemented a freemium pricing model (allowing users to use some tools for free, while putting other more advanced features behind a paywall) and scaled the business. Now, according to Sanchez’s thread, the company is pulling in $125,000 a month.
