This GOP Presidential Candidate Says Only He And Trump Matter In Republican Primaries: 'We Absolutely Need An Outsider'

Vivek Ramaswamy, a GOP presidential contender, downplayed the significance of other candidates in the race during a recent interview.

What Happened: Ramaswamy, in an interview with ABC, disregarded his GOP presidential competitors, stating that only he and former President Trump are of importance in the current race.

"I don't think that there's a relevant race from any two candidates other than Trump and myself," Ramaswamy said.

Despite being largely unknown in political circles at the beginning of the race, Ramaswamy has seen a swift rise in the polls. However, he is still behind Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in nationwide polling averages. DeSantis currently commands approximately 14% of the support, while Ramaswamy attracts around 7%, as per Real Clear Politics.

Ramaswamy, the youngest candidate in the race and the only major contender lacking political experience will be on stage with DeSantis and six other candidates in the first debate in Milwaukee. Trump, conversely, has chosen to be interviewed by Tucker Carlson rather than participate in the debate.

"When it comes to the next president of the United States, I think we absolutely need an outsider…one preferably from a different generation," he said.

"I'm the one person in this race, I think, who is not just leading us from something — I'm leading us to start running to something to an actual vision of what it means to be an American with an actual agenda, not just against the failed Biden agenda. That's boring," he added.

Why It Matters: Ramaswamy announced his presidential aspirations in February, aiming to secure the GOP nomination, and has recently been closing in on DeSantis in the polls. He has expressed his intention to govern in a manner similar to Elon Musk‘s management of X.

Ramaswamy, positioning himself as a Trump-aligned outsider, has capitalized on his lack of political experience and youth. He has articulated his goal of steering the nation towards a novel agenda, rather than simply opposing the existing Biden administration.

Despite facing four indictments and federal charges, Trump maintains a strong lead among Republican voters.
