Elon Musk stressed the diligent approach to maintaining accuracy in Community Notes, an initiative of X, formerly known as Twitter, that is now expanding across Europe.
What Happened: On Tuesday, Musk retweeted a post from the official Community Notes X account, which announced the expansion of the initiative to 23 European countries. The announcement also acknowledged the contributions made by new contributors, whose multilingual notes have been found to be helpful.
Musk’s retweet was accompanied by his own comments.
“We're being super careful with Notes to maximize accuracy. Everything is open source and criticism is always welcome,” Musk wrote.
Why It Matters: The Community Notes, earlier known as Birdwatch, was launched by Twitter to identify false statements on the platform and enhance the accuracy of the information. It was revamped to Community Notes in Nov 2022, shortly after Musk acquired Twitter.
However, it has been found that some Community Notes can also contain "inaccuracies or inconsistency" with reliable sources.
Musk had previously announced that anyone found making "materially false statements" on Twitter, including himself, would be subject to the Community Notes feature.
