Sony's PlayStation Portal handheld is officially launching later this year at $199.99, allowing users to stream PlayStation games on the move, but there's a catch.
What Happened: Sony on Wednesday announced that its long-awaited PlayStation Portal gaming handheld is launching later this year at $199.99, featuring an 8-inch LCD.

The PlayStation Portal sports the iconic controllers on either side of the display, very reminiscent of the PS5 DualSense controllers. Sony had given us a glimpse of the PlayStation Portal earlier this year in May.
The 8-inch display of the PlayStation Portal is capable of 1080p resolution at 60fps. The controllers include two key features from DualSense – adaptive triggers and haptic feedback.
In addition to the handheld, Sony also announced two new wireless audio products, the Pulse Explore and Pulse Elite. While the Pulse Explore is a pair of truly wireless earbuds, the Pulse Elite is an over-the-ear headset. Both these products support low-latency lossless audio thanks to the PlayStation Link technology.
But There's A Catch: While the PlayStation Portal sounds like a great device, there's a catch – you will need a PlayStation 5 to actually use it since it streams games from the console and not the cloud.
"PlayStation Portal will connect remotely to your PS5 over Wi-Fi, so you'll be able to swiftly jump from playing on your PS5 to your PlayStation Portal," said Hideaki Nishino, senior vice president of platform experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment.
The PlayStation Portal can be useful when you need to get up midway through a game, allowing you to resume your gameplay while finishing up another task. Or, when you want to play a game in your room, and the PlayStation 5 is in another location in your house, you can do so on the PlayStation Portal.
