Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk on Wednesday said that the EV giant will announce the delivery event for the Cybertruck once ‘ready.’
What Happened: The wait for the Cybertruck has been long since its unveiling in 2019. However, at the shareholder meeting earlier this year, Musk said that the Cybertruck delivery event will be later this year and since then, anticipation has been high amongst Tesla enthusiasts.
An EV enthusiast from LA took to X.com, formerly Twitter, to express his disappointment with the prolonged wait and hype. The user wrote, “Enough with the hype, let’s get down to business. Please announce the specs, pricing and new estimated delivery event date.”
Musk replied to the user saying, “When we are ready to do so, we will.”
He added that the cybertruck is an ‘extremely difficult’ product to build. “We are in uncharted territory, because it is not like anything else, the CEO wrote.
Why It Matters: Musk on Wednesday posted a picture of himself in the driving seat of the Cybertruck. “Just drove the production candidate Cybertruck at Tesla Giga Texas!” Musk wrote. “I think this is our best product ever,” he added.
Regarding demand for the Cybertruck, Musk said last month, “Demand is so far off the hook, you can’t even see the hook.” The Cybertruck crossed 1.5 million pre-orders as early as November last year. It accumulated over 250,000 pre-orders less than a week after its unveiling in 2019. According to a crowd-sourced reservation tracker, reservations for the Cybertruck are fast nearing 2 million units.
