White House Says Joe Biden Strongly Criticized Trump's Proposal For 10% Import Tariff

The White House has criticized a proposal by former President Donald Trump to impose a 10% tariff on foreign imports, warning of a potential hike in prices, The Hill reported.

Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates highlighted President Joe Biden’s strong opposition to plans that could hurt families with increased prices and inflation.

"President Biden strongly opposes plans to hurt hardworking families with higher prices and higher inflation — as even economists who served in the Trump White House warn such an agenda would," his statement read.

The statement from the White House came after Trump’s interview with Fox Business Network host and former Trump White House official Larry Kudlow, where he discussed possible economic policies for a potential second term.

Trump suggested a 10% tariff on imports wouldn’t deter business, but instead, “would really make a lot of money.”

The administration sought to contrast this proposal with Biden’s economic record, citing declining inflation over the past year despite polls indicating public distrust in Biden’s handling of the economy.

Bates reiterated that Biden’s top priority is to protect higher wages, lower costs, and progress against global inflation for middle-class families.
