Bankman-Fried Attorneys Can Visit Disgraced FTX Founder Daily To Go Over Lawsuit

Zinger Key Points
  • Bankman-Fried's to be given access to discovery materials and document review.
  • Defense's unmet requests include daily meetings and prison transfer.

FTX FTT/USD founder Sam Bankman-Fried's lawyers are allowed to visit him in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.

This decision comes after his bail was revoked in the lead-up to his trial set for Oct. 3.

The order permits his lawyers to fully utilize the legal visitation hours to prepare him for the upcoming trial.

Bankman-Fried will also be given "frequent access" to a computer to go through discovery materials and can ask for specific documents to be transferred to hard drives for his review, as stated by the judge.

While the order mentioned other provisions by the New York Bureau of Prisons, details were omitted in a recent letter from the prosecutors.

The court's allowances did not meet the defense's requests, which included letting Bankman-Fried have daily extended meetings at his lawyers' Manhattan office or moving him to a less secure prison in Putnam County.

The backdrop to this development is Bankman-Fried's incarceration in a maximum-security facility.

This was a result of allegations that he consistently breached his bail terms, notably by trying to communicate with potential witnesses against him.

Prosecutors criticized him for using a VPN to converse with a former colleague earlier this year. Furthermore, he was accused of leaking diary entries of ex-Alameda Research CEO, Caroline Ellison, to the New York Times, which prosecutors believe was an effort to threaten Ellison.
