On Thursday, Bill Gates, the co-founder of Microsoft Corporation, celebrated the 28th anniversary of Windows, sharing a nostalgic tribute on X (formerly Twitter), underscoring the enduring impact of the legacy operating system. 

What Happened: Gates took to X to commemorate a significant moment in tech history — Windows, the operating system that revolutionized how we interact with computers, turned 28 on Aug. 24.

For the unversed, Windows 95 was a game-changer. It introduced features that would become iconic staples in computing for decades. 

The “Start” menu, users gateway to all the software on their PC, debuted on the fateful day. It also simplified navigating the computer, setting a standard for user-friendly interfaces. 

The taskbar, allowing easy management of open windows, was another revolutionary addition. While the taskbar of 1995 lacked some of the features available today, its core concept endures.
