The GOP’s impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden might bolster the incumbent leader’s 2024 reelection campaign, according to an expert.
What Happened: According to CNN’s political director, David Chalian, an impeachment inquiry could heighten Biden supporters’ enthusiasm.
"If one of the big potential vulnerabilities of a Biden reelection effort is an enthusiasm problem, we're seeing that in small donors," Chalian said on CNN's "Inside Politics," reported The Hill.
"If you want to know how to juice enthusiasm on the Democratic side? Launch an impeachment inquiry and launch impeachment, and watch what that will do to help rally Democrats to Biden's cause."

Chalian compared this scenario to the first impeachment of former President Donald Trump in 2019, which saw some Republicans rallying around the then-president. He suggested that the excitement triggered by such political events could aid Biden in his reelection bid.
Why It Matters: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has signaled that Republican-led investigations into Biden and his family’s foreign business activities might result in an official impeachment inquiry this fall. McCarthy affirmed that an impeachment inquiry is a “natural step forward” following the investigations conducted by House Republicans.
The House Republicans have been investigating the actions of Hunter Biden, President Biden's son, during his time on the board of a Ukrainian energy company while his father was vice president. The House Oversight, Judiciary, and Ways and Means committees have also compiled a paper trail of bank transactions and featured whistleblowers who claimed the Department of Justice slow-walked the tax crimes investigation into Hunter Biden.
The White House has previously dismissed such threats from House Republicans as a desperate reaction to the improving economy under Biden's administration.
