Trump-Style 'Wrecking Ball' Recruitment Targets Shrinking Government, Dismissing 50K Federal Workers

As the 2024 elections approach, a group of conservative organizations are preparing for a potential second term for former president Donald Trump, with plans to overhaul the federal government, the Associated Press reported.

The initiative, led by the Heritage Foundation and fueled by ex-Trump administration officials, aims to recruit thousands of Americans to Washington. Their mission is to dismantle and reshape the federal government in line with their vision.

"The president day one will be a wrecking ball for the administrative state," said Russ Vought, a former member of the Trump administration actively engaged in this endeavor and currently serving as the president of the conservative Center for Renewing America.

The plans include the creation of a “Project 2025” handbook and an “army” of Americans to take the reins of the federal government. The intent is to commandeer, reshape and eliminate what Republicans often criticize as the “deep state” bureaucracy, potentially by firing up to 50,000 federal workers.

This monumental effort involves several conservative organizations, many of which are recent entrants to Washington. The strategy marks a departure from traditional conservative approaches which focused on reducing federal taxes and spending.

The ambitious “Project 2025” has garnered support from GOP rivals Ron DeSantis and Vivek Ramaswamy, and is gaining traction among other Republicans. If Trump secures a second term, the work from the Heritage coalition ensures the presence of personnel to carry forward his unfinished White House business.

The proposed changes have sparked concern among experts who warn of potential chaos in the civil service. Mary Guy, a professor at the University of Colorado, warned that the idea could lead to a return of a political spoils system.
