House Majority Leader Steve Scalise Diagnosed With Treatable Blood Cancer

House Majority Leader Steve Scalise has been diagnosed with a treatable form of blood cancer, known as multiple myeloma, CNBC reported.

Scalise disclosed that he had started medical treatment after feeling unwell for some time. The treatment is expected to last several months.

The 57-year-old Louisiana Republican plans to continue his duties while undergoing treatment. However, he did not specify when he would be returning to Washington, D.C.

Congress is set to reconvene at the U.S. Capitol after Labor Day, anticipating a busy month ahead. This is not the first health challenge for Scalise. He was one of six victims in a mass shooting at a Congressional Baseball Game practice in Alexandria, Virginia, in 2017. Scalise was shot in the hip, leading to several surgeries and blood transfusions.
