Uber Technologies, Inc. UBER has reportedly launched an electric motorbike service in Kenya, its first in Africa.

In Africa, the company also has plans to launch in Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania, and South Africa, Reuters reported, citing a statement from Kagiso Khaole, Uber's general manager for sub-Saharan Africa.

Drivers of the bike are expected to witness a 30-35% drop in operating costs. Users of the platform will spend 15-20% less than they do for a regular Uber motorbike trip, the company said, which is noted by Reuters.

The electric motorbike will feature lower vibrations and less sound, the report added.

The development aligns with the company's goal of making its global platform emissions-free by 2040.

Price Action: UBER shares are trading higher by 1.73% to $47.31 on the last check Thursday.
