Joe Biden To Tour Idalia Storm-Damaged Areas In Florida This Weekend

President Joe Biden is scheduled to travel to Florida this Saturday to witness the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia. The announcement was made during his visit to the FEMA headquarters, CBS News reported.

Biden’s trip aims to assess the impact of the hurricane in the state’s Big Bend region on the Gulf Coast. Details regarding the visit have not been disclosed yet.

Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, Homeland Security Adviser, confirmed during a White House press briefing that Biden will be visiting the areas most affected by the hurricane.

The President had a discussion with Governor Ron DeSantis on matters concerning federal assistance related to Hurricane Idalia. Whether a meeting between Biden and DeSantis will take place during the visit is yet to be confirmed.

Biden also made an appeal to Congress to refill FEMA’s disaster fund which could potentially run out in the coming weeks, thereby causing a delay in the federal response to natural disasters.

Hurricane Idalia, a Category 3 storm, hit Florida’s Gulf Coast on Wednesday, bringing along strong winds, heavy rains, and flooding.
