Biden Slams Trump's Infrastructure Shortcomings In Labor Day Address: 'He Didn't Build A Damn Thing'

President Joe Biden hit out at former President Donald Trump for his lack of infrastructure development during his tenure in a recent Labor Day speech.

What Happened: Biden denounced his predecessor for not having “constructed a damn thing” throughout his administration, HuffPost reported.

Addressing the Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 in Pennsylvania, Biden underscored his drive to bolster the country’s infrastructure in stark contrast to Trump’s inactivity.

Biden, referring to his predecessor as “the last guy,” commented, “Guess what? The great real estate builder, the last guy, he didn't build a damn thing. Under my predecessor, Infrastructure Week became a punchline. On my watch, infrastructure has been a decade, and it's a headline."

"The guy who held this job before me was just one of two presidents in history … who left office with fewer jobs in America than when he got elected to office," Biden said. "By the way, you know who the other one was? Herbert Hoover. Isn't that kind of coincidental?"

Why It Matters: The timing of Biden’s comments is noteworthy given that speculations about a potential rematch between him and Trump in the 2024 elections are rife.

Biden was leading Trump in the polls as of August 2023. However, a Wall Street Journal poll in September suggested Biden’s age and economic policies could hinder his re-election bid.

The infrastructure issue is likely to be a significant part of Biden’s campaign, particularly as some Republican senators have expressed doubts about Trump’s chances. Sen. Mike Rounds, for instance, suggested the party might benefit from a unifying candidate rather than a divisive one.
