Fani Willis Presents Criminal Case Against False Electors

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis presented her arguments for the case against false electors who claimed to be legitimate presidential electors, Politico reported.

Willis shared her views with the U.S. District Court Judge Steve Jones, against the appeal of one of the defendants, Shawn Still, to transfer the criminal case to federal court where defendants can argue for immunity from state charges.

"Defendant's argument is akin to claiming that a homemade badge could transform him into a genuine United States Marshal with all the powers afforded that position. Repeating a fiction does not make the statement true,” she said.

The case involves 19 defendants, including Donald Trump, who are accused of being part of a racketeering conspiracy intended to subvert Georgia’s 2020 election.

Three of the false electors, Still, Cathleen Latham and former chairman of Georgia Republican Party David Shafer have argued that they were acting at Trump’s behest when they signed the false documents. However, Willis disputed this claim, stating that their actions were not to further a federal function, but rather to further Trump’s political candidacy.

The Fulton County District Attorney also disputed Still’s claim that he was acting on the advice of Trump’s attorneys, stating that “advice of counsel” defenses are typically not recognized in Georgia.
