In a recent interview with CNBC, Google’s Vice President, Sapna Chadha, disclosed the principal characteristic she seeks when interviewing new talent: a growth mindset,
Chadha, who holds a position at Google Asia Pacific, emphasized the importance of a growth mindset amongst Google’s most successful employees, Business Insider reported.
This trait, she explained, is a significant driver of good performance and results.
Chadha further elaborated that she seeks individuals eager to exchange ideas and innovate, and those not satisfied with the status quo. During interviews, she probes into their recent learnings to understand their efforts toward evolution. Chadha said, “Have they taken some initiative on their own to learn something that’s out of their domain? Because I want to learn from you.”

The Google VP also stressed the importance of continuous learning in the tech industry, with technologies like AI becoming increasingly advanced and critical to companies.
The report also mentioned insights from Paul O’Keefe, assistant professor of psychology at Yale National University of Singapore, and Jeff Sipe, a former Google recruiter. Both emphasized the importance of nurturing curiosity and maintaining a broad range of interests, alongside being able to learn from mistakes.
