Russia Introduces War Training In High School Curriculum, Preparing Students For Front Lines: Report

The U.K. Ministry of Defense stated that Russia has incorporated war training into its school curriculum, reportedly preparing high school students for the front lines, Business Insider reported

The curriculum includes lessons on drones, rifles, and grenades with an aim to serve three objectives, including indoctrinating students with the Kremlin’s justification for the ‘Special Military Operation’, instilling a martial mindset and reducing training timelines for mobilization and deployment.

The ‘Basics of Life Safety’ course, approved by the Russian government in 2022, will apply to senior teenage students in years 10 and 11. It includes practical training with Kalashnikov assault rifles and grenades, a pattern observed in occupied Crimean schools last spring.

A significant part of the course is learning to operate and pilot unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). This move reflects the growing presence of UAVs in Russia’s current war against Ukraine and anticipates their central role in future conflicts.

Earlier, the course was thought to be aimed at promoting a culture of militarized patriotism rather than developing genuine combat capability. However, it now appears to serve both purposes.
