Porsche Recalls Nearly 5,000 Taycan EVs For Fire Risk, Following Volkswagen's Recall Of Audi EVs

Volkswagen AG VWAGY owned Porsche is recalling nearly 5000 of its fully electric Taycan vehicles citing increased risks of fire.

What Happened: The recall for 4,777 model year 2023 Taycan vehicles follows the identification of an insufficient amount of sealant on the battery. As a result, liquid can accumulate in the battery and increase the risk of fire, the company said in a defect report filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

Users will receive a yellow warning message in the vehicle if the liquid enters the battery and the insulation resistance drops below a defined benchmark. The warning can even be in red.

As for a solution, dealers will test the battery for leakage and replace it as required.

The ten affected models include Porsche Taycan, Porsche Taycan 4 Cross Turismo, Porsche Taycan 4S, Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo, Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, Porsche Taycan GTS, Porsche Taycan GTS Sport Turismo, Porsche Taycan Turbo, Porsche Taycan Turbo S and Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo.

Why It Matters: Volkswagen also recalled certain 2023 Audi RS E-Tron GT and E-Tron GT vehicles citing the same concerns as the Porsche. The recall affected 1,899 Audi vehicles.
