Marjorie Taylor Greene Counters Matt Gaetz's For Joe Biden's Impeachment Inquiry: 'Who's Really Been Making The Push?'

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga), on Tuesday, claimed that she was the primary advocate for President Joe Biden‘s impeachment inquiry, contradicting claims made by fellow Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.).

What Happened: House Speaker Kevin McCarthy has directed his committees to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry into President Biden.

Greene, a key McCarthy ally and member of the ultraconservative House Freedom Caucus, has been a driving force behind McCarthy’s decision, which revolves around allegations of President Biden profiting from his son, Hunter Biden‘s business activities.

Greene, who has been advocating for Biden’s impeachment since his inauguration, has refuted Gaetz’s claims of being instrumental in persuading the Speaker. Gaetz, a Florida Republican and non-caucus member, maintained that he had been advocating for the impeachment inquiry. Greene accused Gaetz of being late in seeking action against Biden and his son. “When [Kevin McCarthy] makes his announcement in moments, remember that as I pushed him for weeks, [Brian Kilmeade] said I was: ‘Speaking into the wind’ on impeachment. Turns out, the wind may be listening!” he said.

“Correction my friend. I introduced articles of impeachment against Joe Biden for his corrupt business dealings in Ukraine & China while he was Vice President on his very first day in office,” MTG said on X.

“You wouldn’t cosponsor those and I had to drag you kicking and screaming to get you to cosponsor my articles on the border. Who’s really been making the push?” she added.

Why It Matters: Greene’s push for an impeachment inquiry into Biden’s presidency has been a recurring theme. In August, Greene expressed frustration over Republicans’ inaction regarding an investigation into the president. She faced backlash early in September, as she threatened to vote against government funding unless the impeachment inquiry was initiated.

White House has promptly challenged the GOP-led efforts to initiate an impeachment inquiry. The White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations, Ian Sams, accused McCarthy of yielding to Greene’s pressure to begin impeachment proceedings or risk a government shutdown.
