A group of radical environmentalists set ablaze 15 Tesla vehicles at a car dealership in Frankfurt, Germany, Electrek reported.
The cost of the damage is estimated to be over $536,885 (€500,000). Forty firefighters were drafted in to extinguish the inferno.
The group behind the incident took credit through a letter published on the German version of the Indymedia website, a platform often used by radical left-wing groups.
Within the letter, the group stated: “That's why we flambéed some new Teslas in Frankfurt tonight. As a greeting to the protests in Munich. As one attack among many on the destructive auto industry.”
The group’s main criticism of Tesla Inc. TSLA revolves around lithium and cobalt mining and its impact on indigenous communities. They also criticized Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s “patriarchal fantasies” and his plans to colonize Mars.
