Polestar 2 drivers can now watch either Prime Video or YouTube when their vehicle is charging.
What Happened: The Polestar Automotive Holding UK PLC PSNY vehicle integrated YouTube in June 2023. Now it has widened its infotainment offerings with Amazon.com, Inc’s AMZN Prime Video for drivers to watch when the vehicle is parked or charging.
Polestar 2 already features Google's Android Automotive OS with Google built-in, and several apps including Waze, EasyPark, A Better Routeplanner, AccuWeather, Range Assistant, Journey Log and the Performance app for dual-motor cars.
The car also has the Vivaldi web browser since December 2021. The browser helps the car user access infotainment for which there might not be an in-built app via the web.
"The successful launch and integration of Android Automotive OS in Polestar 2 has proven that we can leverage the best navigation and voice control in the business to make life with a Polestar easier,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said. “The Google Play store has also gained a rich variety of apps that offer interactivity and entertainment, from playing games to streaming series."
Why It Matters: All the apps on Polestar 2 are expected to be available on future Polestar vehicles as well.
The Polestar 4 is on track to start production in November with the first customer deliveries slated before year-end in China. Polestar 3 deliveries, meanwhile, will start from the second quarter of 2024.
