Dylan Mulvaney Wants To Star In A Beer Super Bowl Ad, But Not For Bud Light

Influencer and trans activist Dylan Mulvaney has had quite the eventful 2023, with negative headlines linked to her more often than positive ones.

Mulvaney is linked to boycotts against Bud Light and could be one of the reasons why market share and the stock price have taken a hit in 2023.

Mulvaney isn’t happy with Bud Light, but continues to drink beer and is ready to turn attention to working with another beer company, should one come calling.

What Happened: A marketing team that worked with Anheuser-Busch Inbev BUD was impressed with Mulvaney’s social media presence and documented journey of her gender transition. This led to a Bud Light can with Mulvaney on it being sent to the social media influencer.

Mulvaney shared the can on social media and it opened calls for boycotts and calls that Bud Light had gone woke.

Since the post from Mulvaney and boycotts, sales of Bud Light have dropped and the brand is no longer the top-selling beer in the U.S.

Mulvaney has moved on from Bud Light, but isn’t shying away from beer or working with a different company.

The influencer and activist recently made her presence felt at the New York Fashion Week and also took part in an interview with The Cut.

While Bud Light is likely done with Mulvaney, she is hoping that another beer company could give her a shot.

“Maye it’d be epic … if in like 10 years I got to do a beer commercial for a Super Bowl,” Mulvaney told The Cut.

Mulvaney called the events that transpired since the Bud Light controversy a “huge wake-up call” and she now realized the impact of being in the public.

“This was a good wake-up call for me. Now I’m a more realistic person.”

In the interview with The Cut, Mulvaney clarified that she likes drinking a cold beer sometimes.

The comments came after Mulvaney may have taken a shot at Bud Light after winning a creator of the year award when she said that she was going to celebrate by drinking a beer.

Aside from hoping for a Super Bowl commercial someday, Mulvaney is currently writing a memoir and auditioning to be in Broadway shows.

Why It’s Important: While things could be much different in 10 years, the thought of a different beer company using Mulvaney in a Super Bowl commercial might have investors on the edge of their seats.

Bud Light has distanced itself from Mulvaney and is now aggressively going after NFL and college football fans.

Based on Mulvaney’s wish to be in a Super Bowl commercial, the big question would be if any company would take the risk with the potential backlash.

The last Super Bowl saw commercials from Anheuser-Busch, Molson Coors Beverage Co TAP and Diageo DEO advertising their various beer and spirits brands.

With companies such as Anheuser-Busch InBev and Target becoming the poster children of “woke stocks,” it seems highly unlikely that a Super Bowl commercial that costs millions of dollars and is viewed by over 100 million people would take this risk head-on.

Shares of Anheuser-Busch InBev are down 4.8% year-to-date in the wake of the controversy and declining sales.

Rival beer stocks such as Molson Coors have soared in 2023, with the stock up 29% year-to-date.

Constellation Brands STZ, which owns the Modelo brand that passed Bud Light for the top-selling U.S. beer brand crown, has watched its shares increase over 15% year-to-date in 2023.
