Tesla's 'Performance Cybertruck' Gets A 'Next-Level' Boost From Elon Musk: Here's What He Said

Tesla Inc TSLA CEO Elon Musk, on Friday, teased the ‘performance Cybertruck,’ much to the frenzy of customers awaiting deliveries.

What Happened: Musk wrote on X, formerly Twitter, “I just drove the performance Cybertruck today and it kicks ass next-level.” He was responding to Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, a club of avid Tesla owners, who posted a short snippet of their interview with Musk from 2022 at Tesla’s Gigafactory in Texas.

In the snippet, Club Vice President Kelvin Gee is seen asking the CEO if a Model 3 Plaid makes sense to him. Musk replied in the negative.

Why It Matters: While Tesla offers plaid versions of Model S/X, it offers performance versions of Model 3/Y. Seemingly, Cybertruck is going to join 3 and Y in naming its configurations.

Responding to Musk’s comment, an X user wrote, “Wait wait wait!!!!! Performance??? Sweet jesus!!!”

Another enquired whether there will be any external features setting the performance variant apart. Yet others requested for more specifications of the variant.

At the company's annual shareholder meeting earlier this year in May, Musk confirmed that the Cybertruck delivery event would be held later this year. Tesla has previously said that the vehicle, one of the most anticipated from the Tesla stable, will be available in three configurations, namely single-motor rear wheel drive, dual motor all-while drive and tri-motor all-wheel drive.
