GOP presidential contender Vivek Ramaswamy expressed his strong stance on immigration laws through the use of military forces. He emphasized the importance of lawful entry into the country.
What Happened: Ramaswamy posted a video of himself talking to a woman in a cafe on X, formerly known as Twitter. He was heard describing his stance on border and immigration.
“You can’t be American if your first act of entering the country is a lawbreaking one. That’s not racist. That’s not xenophobic. We are a nation built on the rule of law. I will use our military to secure the border without apology & restore the rule of law in America. We're going to finally solve this,” his post read.
Further in the video he justified using the military by citing examples of sending military aid to countries like Ukraine. He added that having a border wall is not enough to secure the borders.
Why It Matters: Ramaswamy, whose parents immigrated to the U.S., has recently been advocating for a more restrictive immigration policy, particularly targeting the H-1B visa system. He proposes a merit-based approach to replace the current lottery system, which he believes only benefits the sponsoring companies.
