Amazon's Amp Division Faces Employee Backlash Amid Leadership Reshuffle: 'This Place Is Becoming A Circus'

The unexpected leadership reshuffling at Amazon Inc’s AMZN Amp live radio division has led to employee outrage and pointed queries, underscoring the growing discontent within the underperforming business, Business Insider reported.

The Amp team announced internally that Matt Sandler, an existing senior leader, would assume leadership of the business. This follows the promotion of John Ciancutti, who is now leading Amazon Music’s consumer product and technology division, succeeding Alok Verma.

Post the announcement, employees presented a series of questions to the management at an internal town hall meeting on Wednesday. These queries ranged from concerns about Amp’s business future, lack of faith in the leadership team to claims of a “toxic” work environment.

“This place is becoming a circus,” one of the people wrote.

Amp, launched last year, is a live radio app that allows users to broadcast their own shows. Despite celebrity shows, the platform has failed to meet internal targets and let go of about half of its team last year.

This turmoil is the latest in a series of setbacks for Amazon, following substantial job cuts this year and anxiety among employees due to the new return-to-office policy.

Employees asked about the financial outlook of Amp, with projects being put on hold and budgets slashed. Some questioned the future initiatives of the team and the hiring plans for the next year.
