Georgia Judge Orders Anonymity For Jurors In Trump Election Interference Case

A ruling from a Georgia judge has decreed that the identities of jurors in the upcoming trial involving former President Donald Trump will remain undisclosed, NBC News reported.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis‘ request for juror anonymity in the Georgia election interference case has been granted by Fulton County Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee. The judge’s order imposes stringent restrictions on the disclosure of juror identities in any trial related to the case against Trump and his 18 co-defendants.

The order extends to prohibiting the recording of images, statements or conversations of jurors or prospective jurors, barring exceptional circumstances such as the jury foreperson’s verdict announcement or queries to the judge.

Jurors and prospective jurors will be identified only by their numbers during the trial’s duration. Information revealing their identities, including names, addresses, phone numbers and employment details, will not be disclosed.

The order applies to the trial of Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell, scheduled to commence on Oct. 23, as well as the subsequent trial of the remaining 17 defendants, including Trump.

A group of media intervenors, including The Associated Press, CBS News, and The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, who had opposed Willis’ request, consented to the judge’s order. They had previously argued that the request would limit news organizations’ ability to report effectively on jury selection.
