Two fake GOP Electors from Michigan, Mari-Ann Henry and Clifford Frost, have requested a judge to dismiss their charges this week. The basis of their plea stems from comments made by State Attorney General Dana Nessel, CNN reported.
The lawyers for Henry and Frost filed motions to drop the case. They referred to statements made by Nessel, who in an appearance before a liberal advocacy group, characterized the electors as “brainwashed” and truly believing that former President Donald Trump had won the 2020 election.
The argument made by the defendants’ attorneys is that their clients could not have intended to deceive or defraud, as they genuinely believed in Trump’s victory. This belief, they assert, contradicts the necessity for criminal intent in the charges against them.
Both Henry and Frost, along with 14 other defendants facing similar charges, have pleaded not guilty. Each has been charged with eight state-level felonies.
Further hearings in the case are scheduled for next month in Lansing, Michigan.
