Mark Milley Responds To Trump's Execution Comment: 'It's Also Directed At The Institution Of The Military'

Outgoing Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley has responded to Donald Trump‘s recent claims that he should have been executed for his actions during the former president’s term.

Milley said that Trump’s remarks were disrespectful not just to him but also to the U.S. military as a whole. His comments were made during an interview with CBS’ Norah O’Donnell, reported CNN.

The former president had taken to Truth Social last week, accusing Milley of committing a “treasonous act” through his backchannel communications with a Chinese general. Trump suggested that such actions had previously warranted the death penalty.

Milley, however, voiced no regrets about his actions, explaining that he was merely trying to reassure his Chinese counterpart of the U.S. stability amid Trump’s attempts to stay in office.

"As much as these comments are directed at me, it's also directed at the institution of the military. And there is 2.1 million of us in uniform," he said.

Recognizing the severity of Trump’s comments, especially given the former president’s standing as a front-runner for the Republican nomination, Milley affirmed the military’s unwavering loyalty to the U.S. Constitution.

The outgoing Chairman, who will retire at the end of this week, also assured that he has taken adequate measures to ensure his and his family’s safety following Trump’s remarks.
