Will Donald Trump Attend His Civil Fraud Trial In Person?

The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, is likely to join his civil fraud trial in New York in person. The trial is scheduled to start on Monday, and preparations are underway.

What Happened: As reported by CNN, multiple sources have hinted that Trump is planning to attend the trial, prompting security arrangements at the Lower Manhattan courthouse. However, Trump’s spokesperson, Steven Cheung, conveyed to CNN, “No final decision has been made yet.”

The possibility of Trump’s attendance came to light after a federal judge in Florida allowed Trump to postpone a deposition in a separate case due to its clash with the New York trial. The trial was initiated by New York Attorney General Letitia James in September 2022 and implicates Trump, his elder sons, their firms, and several executives for fraudulent overvaluation of properties in Trump’s financial statements for ten years.

Why It Matters: As Benzinga reported earlier in September, the civil case against Trump and his company seeks $250 million in damages and proposes strict business restrictions in New York. The lawsuit alleges that Trump and his company falsified asset values to secure lending benefits.

A judge ruled that Trump committed fraud in New York, as per Benzinga’s coverage. This ruling was prior to the impending civil lawsuit scheduled for October 2.
